Motorcycle Accidents in California

San Diego, CA – One Hurt in Motorcycle Crash on Miramar RdIn California, motorcycle accidents are a common occurrence, and they often result in serious injuries for riders. In 2022 alone, 10,597 motorcycle accidents were reported. These accidents claimed the lives of more than 500 people while leaving more than 8600 injured. Negligence is often a significant contributing factor in motorcycle accidents. When drivers fail to share the road safely with motorcyclists or engage in reckless behaviors, they put the lives of motorcyclists at risk. Some examples of negligence that can lead to motorcycle accidents include:

  • Distracted driving: Distracted driving, such as texting while driving, can increase the likelihood of a driver not seeing a motorcyclist traveling in front of them.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed is another common factor in motorcycle accidents. When drivers fail to obey the speed limits or drive too fast for the conditions of the road, they may not be able to stop in time to avoid crashing into motorcyclists ahead.
  • Drunk driving: Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they may not be able to react in time to avoid a collision with a driver ahead of them.
  • Reckless driving: Aggressive driving behaviors, such as tailgating or passing motorcycles too closely, increase the likelihood of a motor vehicle accident taking place.

After being hurt in a motorcycle accident, victims have the ability to file a personal injury lawsuit.
