Bakersfield, CA – One Killed in Head-On Crash on Hwy 178

Bakersfield, CA (April 3, 2024) – A major motor vehicle accident reported in the Bakersfield area claimed one person’s life. The Bakersfield Police Department and firefighters were called to the scene of the accident on Saturday morning, March 30.

At around 1030 a.m., two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on Highway 178. Authorities responded to the scene and located a Subaru and a Toyota blocking multiple lanes of the roadway near the Doyle Ranch area. Emergency officials immediately closed down the roadway to provide assistance. Multiple emergency responders were sent to the scene to assist. The driver of the Subaru, identified as a 42-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased by authorities while on site. Several other victims were injured in the accident. Two victims inside either of the vehicles were transported to area hospitals for emergency care. The driver of the Toyota was severely injured and rushed to a local hospital for medical care. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
