Long Beach, CA – Atlantic Ave Crash at Anaheim St Takes One Life
Long Beach, CA (February 22, 2024) – The Long Beach Police Department confirmed that 60-year-old Roger Lee Watkins lost his life as a result of a fatal collision that occurred Tuesday evening in Long Beach. The crash was reported at approximately 11:50 p.m. on February 20.
According to official reports, a 2012 Lexus IS250 was heading northbound on Atlantic Avenue. For unknown reasons, it broadsided a 2012 Ford Focus, which was heading west on Anaheim Street. The impact of the crash caused the Ford to strike a traffic light signal before striking an abandoned building. The Lexus struck a bus bench. The driver of the Ford, identified as Watkins, was trapped inside his vehicle.
Firefighters responded to the scene to remove the victim. However, he was pronounced deceased on site due to his injuries. The driver of the Lexus, a 31-year-old from Long Beach, was transported to an area hospital. Authorities believe that DUI, distracted driving, and speeding all played a role in this motor vehicle collision. Investigations are currently underway.
We hope the injured victim recovers quickly.
We offer our condolences to the family of Roger Lee Watkins.
