Fatal Bicycle Accidents in California
Bicycling in California, known for its scenic routes and cycling-friendly atmosphere, unfortunately, comes with risks, including fatal accidents. These tragic incidents often result from negligent actions by drivers. Several common actions by drivers contribute significantly to fatal bicycle accidents in California:
Distracted Driving: One of the leading causes of accidents, distracted driving, can result in tragic collisions with cyclists.
Speeding: Exceeding the speed limit reduces reaction time and increases the severity of accidents, especially when sharing the road with vulnerable cyclists.
Failure to Yield: Drivers failing to yield the right-of-way to cyclists at intersections or crosswalks can lead to catastrophic consequences.
Dooring Accidents: Opening a car door without checking for cyclists passing by can cause severe injuries or even fatalities.
