Fatal Auto Accidents in California
Tragic car accidents that result in fatalities happen too often in California, leading to the loss of thousands of lives on our state’s roads each year. When a family member passes away suddenly and unexpectedly in an accident, it brings significant challenges for families who find it hard to cope with what comes next.
After experiencing a loss, there are legal paths you can take. In California, different people have the right to take legal action against the driver responsible for the accident. According to California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60, priority in wrongful death claims usually goes to those closest to the deceased person, like dependent children or surviving partners. Other eligible individuals who can seek financial compensation after losing a loved one include:
- Parents or siblings of the deceased, along with their children
- Grandparents of the deceased
- Anyone who depended on the deceased economically, including putative spouses and their children
Filing a wrongful death claim can help your family seek compensation to cover various losses. This may involve payment for funeral expenses, burial costs, emotional suffering, vehicle repairs, and more. Working with a wrongful death attorney in Monterey Park can improve your chances of getting the highest compensation for all your losses. Acting quickly to hire legal representation is essential to increase your chances of getting justice.
