Bakersfield, CA – Pedestrian Struck, Killed on CA-99 at Merced Ave

Bakersfield, CA (May 31, 2024) – The California Highway Patrol confirmed that one person died as a result of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred early Friday morning, May 31. Authorities were called to the scene just before 1:40 a.m.

Official reports indicate that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the northbound side of California State Route 99. Authorities arrived at the scene and shut down the roadway near Merced Avenue. The pedestrian was severely hurt as a result of the accident. Despite medical efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The involved vehicles fled the scene of the crash without stopping. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
